Function

For our client in Genk We are looking for a Strategic Purchaser. In this role, you will be responsible for further developing and implementing the procurement policy, combining strategic thinking with a robust operational approach. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, suppliers and the Plant Manager.

In this role, you will focus on both direct and indirect procurement, optimising supplier relationships and achieving cost savings, efficiency gains and security of supply. You will actively contribute to a forward-looking procurement function and play a key role in digitalisation, standardisation and process improvement.

You’ll also be keeping yourself busy with

• Developing, implementing and monitoring category and procurement strategies;
• Preparing for and conducting commercial negotiations with suppliers;
• Concluding and managing contracts and framework agreements;
• Developing and evaluating strategic supplier relationships;
• Ensuring the security of supply and availability of critical goods and services;
• Identifying market trends, price movements and supply risks;
• Achieving cost savings and efficiency improvements within the group;
• Supporting operational, logistical and investment projects by drawing on procurement expertise;
• Contributing to ERP projects, the digitalisation and automation of procurement processes;
• Harmonising and standardising procurement procedures across different entities;
• Optimising master data, reporting and data-driven decision-making;
• Monitoring sustainability targets, legal requirements and supplier compliance;
• Regular attendance at the head office in Genk, supplemented by visits to other branches and suppliers.

You will report directly to the Group Procurement Manager and will be given the opportunity to further shape the procurement function within a professional and dynamic environment.

Profile

For this role as Strategic Purchaser at our client’s premises in Genk We are looking for an experienced procurement professional with strong analytical skills who combines strategic insight with a hands-on approach. You are confident in negotiations, can switch easily between operational and strategic priorities, and are able to build lasting relationships with internal and external partners.

• You hold a master’s or bachelor’s degree, preferably in economics, engineering or logistics;
• You have at least 5 years’ relevant experience in strategic procurement;
• You have experience in contract negotiations and supplier management;
• You have strong analytical skills and a commercial mindset;
• You are a negotiator who builds relationships and delivers results;
• You are proactive, enterprising and solution-oriented;
• You have a good knowledge of Excel and ERP systems;
• You are fluent in Dutch and English; knowledge of French would be an advantage.
• You are willing to visit various branches and suppliers on a regular basis.
• You have the maturity to contribute ideas at a strategic level, without losing sight of operational realities.
