Logistics Manager

Function

As Logistics Manager at Merchtem (BE) You are the linchpin of the logistics organisation and ensure that the flow of goods runs smoothly, accurately and efficiently. You will manage a team of warehouse staff and drivers, oversee the planning and monitoring of transport and storage, and work closely with the various departments to ensure operational continuity.

In this role, you will combine an operational presence on the shop floor with a strong focus on optimisation, safety and quality. You will take responsibility for day-to-day logistics operations and actively contribute ideas for improvements that will take service, traceability and efficiency to the next level.

Your key responsibilities:

• Managing warehouse staff and drivers, with a focus on teamwork, safety and clear agreements.
• Organising and monitoring incoming and outgoing goods flows, including loading and unloading operations and ensuring accurate record-keeping.
• Managing and monitoring external warehousing and outsourced transport.
• Monitor stocks of packaging materials and make timely adjustments where necessary.
• To take responsibility for waste streams and the associated administrative follow-up.
• Training and mentoring new staff, with a focus on quality, efficiency and safety-conscious working practices.
• Propose and implement improvements to further optimise logistics processes.
• Work closely with procurement, production, quality control and sales to support the smooth running of day-to-day operations.
• Report to the plant manager and play an active role in the plant management team.

Profile

For this role, we are looking for an experienced logistics professional with a hands-on approach and a keen interest in process optimisation. You will have several years’ relevant experience in a logistics or operational environment and will feel at home in a role centred on managing people, bringing structure to processes and adapting quickly.

What you bring:

• A bachelor’s degree in logistics or an equivalent qualification, or relevant experience to compensate for this.
• 3 to 5 years’ experience in a logistics role, preferably with managerial responsibility.
• Strong analytical skills and a good understanding of logistics processes and the flow of goods.
• Experience with MS Office and a willingness to learn new software quickly.
• A clear affinity for efficiency, lean working practices and continuous improvement.
• Good communication skills and a smooth, clear approach to working with others.
• The ability to achieve results both independently and as part of a team.
• A practical, solution-oriented approach and a strong sense of responsibility.
• You speak Dutch fluently and have a good knowledge of English and French.
• Ideally, you should live in the Merchtem area or within easy reach of it.
