Function

As Train attendant in Essen You’ll be the face of the service on board and will ensure that passengers are looked after safely, efficiently and properly from departure to arrival. You’ll combine a customer-focused approach with clear communication and a strong focus on safety and punctuality.

In this role, you will work in an environment with varying shifts and plenty of variety. You will be a visible presence for travellers, answering questions in Dutch and French, and providing support with practical and operational tasks where necessary.

• To provide passengers with information on departure times, connections, services and any changes.
• Assist passengers with boarding and alighting, whilst ensuring safety and the smooth flow of passengers.
• Answering questions, identifying problems and dealing professionally with unexpected situations.
• Carry out ticket sales and simple administrative tasks using digital tools.
• To support passengers with reduced mobility and, where necessary, arrange refunds or other practical assistance.
• Working alongside colleagues at the station, such as security staff and station managers.
• To develop a basic understanding of rolling stock and learn to recognise faults so that you can respond quickly and appropriately.
• Working to a fixed shift pattern involving early and late shifts, including regular weekend work.

Your fixed starting and finishing point is Essen station. You’ll start and finish every shift there, which means your work routine remains clear and predictable. You’ll also receive thorough, paid training that prepares you for the role step by step.

Profile

For this role, we are looking for a motivated candidate with a strong service-oriented mindset and sufficient flexibility to work in a dynamic operational environment.

• Dutch and French are compulsory; you can communicate easily with travellers and colleagues in both languages.
• English is an advantage, but not a formal requirement.
• You are available for irregular hours: early and late shifts, with very early start times on occasion.
• You can at least 1 weekend off per month are willing to work at weekends.
• You can make your own way to Brussels station, even when public transport isn’t running.
• You have a strong focus on customer focus, social interaction and clear communication.
• You remain calm and professional under pressure and are able to deal effectively with unexpected situations or last-minute changes.
• You work with attention to detail and have a strong sense of responsibility for safety, service and follow-up.
• A qualification is not required; motivation, commitment and the ability to learn are more important.
• Experience in a customer-focused role, working shifts or involving a lot of interaction with people is an advantage
