Head of technical services
Function
- You will be the day-to-day point of contact for technical operations and will translate operational needs into clear technical priorities for the team.
- You will organise, coordinate and oversee the day-to-day technical operations relating to the machinery, with a focus on safety, quality, continuity and efficiency. In doing so, you will take on a leading role: you will monitor progress, set priorities and ensure that interventions are followed up promptly, safely and systematically.
- You translate technical issues from the production department into clear actions for the technical team and ensure prompt feedback to those in charge of operations. You are not the person who resolves every fault yourself, but you ensure that the right team member takes the right action at the right time.
- You will coach and supervise 15 technicians in their day-to-day activities and help them to set clear priorities in line with the needs on the production floor.
- You will monitor technical interventions, analyses and improvement measures, and ensure that agreements between the technical and production departments are clear, achievable and supported by all parties.
- You will ensure that work orders are correctly scheduled, monitored and prioritised, taking into account both technical urgencies and operational production priorities. To this end, you will work closely with the planner/work scheduler and ensure that agreements regarding preventive and corrective maintenance are properly followed.
- You will foster constructive collaboration between the technical, production, engineering and quality departments in order to tackle technical challenges in a systematic and pragmatic manner. You will actively contribute ideas on structural improvements to machinery, processes and maintenance operations, in collaboration with departments including engineering, reliability and continuous improvement.
- You’ll take the lead on optimisation projects and help foster an enterprising, respectful and no-nonsense culture within the technical department.
- You will report to the maintenance manager.
Profile
- You have a strong technical background and at least 7 years’ relevant experience within a complex production environment.
- You have in-depth knowledge of mechanics, electricity, pneumatics, hydraulics and industrial maintenance processes.
- You think analytically and systematically: you see faults not just as problems to be solved, but as opportunities to make lasting improvements to processes.
- You have experience of managing, coaching or coordinating technical staff and know how to get people on board with change. You feel comfortable in a role where you not only contribute technical input, but above all provide direction, monitor progress, ensure alignment and empower others in their roles.
- You communicate clearly and decisively, even when the pressure is on or priorities change rapidly.
- You’re someone who knows how to get things done: you’re quick off the mark, feel strongly involved in what’s going on on the shop floor, and always keep technical priorities at the forefront of your mind.
- You take ownership, think ahead and adapt quickly when the situation demands it, without losing sight of the bigger picture or your collaboration with production. You are able to switch between day-to-day operational monitoring and structural improvement initiatives, whilst maintaining a balance between short-term and long-term objectives.
- You identify with a no-nonsense culture in which collaboration, safety, quality and continuous improvement are key priorities.
